During the Year 2006:
- PMI Supports "Wounded Warriors"
PMI was recently recognized by the former Contract Service Association (CSA) for its support of "Wounded Warriors" and is proud to present a brief narrative of this important contribution to the men and women of the armed services.
PMI specializes in a wide array of Government support services and transportation has always been one of its core competencies. At Camp LeJeune, NC, there is one bus run in particular that is a point of great pride for the company and the PMI employees who support it. It is known as the Wounded Warrior bus, and it has a unique mission.
"The Wounded Warrior bus holds a special place in our hearts," said PMI founder and President, Marjorie Strickland, "It directly supports America's brave men and women who were wounded while serving our nation overseas." Leon "Skip" Singleton, PMI's Camp LeJeune Project Manager and a 30-year Marine Corps veteran, oversees the operation.
"We transport wounded Marines to and from medical appointments and to outlying areas in Greenville, Fayetteville, Wilmington, and other locations throughout North Carolina," said Skip. "We also transport them to various Wounded Warrior special events, such as bowling, fishing, and golf."
The shuttle is designed to transport up to four wheelchairs and an additional eight passengers with various physical disabilities. "Our drivers are veterans themselves. It's very emotional for them to see their fellow warriors return home with such devastating injuries," said Skip. "They're thankful for the opportunity to support our troops and see them receive such quality care."
"Operating the Wounded Warrior bus means a lot more than just fulfilling another contract requirement," said Marjorie Strickland, "We have the privilege of serving those who have sacrificed so much to serve us. We consider that an honor."
